The title page has an important signature: “Meshulam Zalman ben Rabbi Shlomo of Maastricht, see below.

Rabbi Meshulam Zalman (1822-1902) was the son of Rabbi Shlomo of Zilz. He was a student of the Chatam Sofer and the Katav Sofer, son-in-law of Rabbi Yaakov Ettlinger of Altona (the Aruch LaNer). He served as rabbi in a number of places: Efellen (1847), Maastricht in Holland (1853), Shverin-Meklenburg (1863), Berlin (1876). This copy was signed by him by hand when he was leading the rabbinate of Maastricht.
