Book in English in 24 colorful engravings featuring scenescapes from the Land of Israel and Ottoman Empire. Accompanied by explanations, created for the gentleman Robert Ainslie by Ludwig Mayer (see below). Antique binding, leather spine, introduction in English, very good condition.
The illustrator Luigi (Ludwig) Mayer drew scenes from Israel and the Ottoman Empire for the British/Scottish diplomat Robert Ainslie, who was an art collector and served then as Ambassador of Britain to the Ottoman Empire. He commissioned these illustrations on important sites in the Empire, which were then used for printers who created engravings and lithographs of them.
