Letter on official letterhead of “Yisrael David Rokach, Avdak of Katov, grandson and great-grandson of the Gahak of Rofshitz and Belz.” From Sivan 1914, addressed (after many titles) to “Menachem Mendel HaKohen shlita, rabbi of Eidat Yeshurun in Cairo” (Rabbi Aharon Menachem Mendel HaKohen ben HaRan, rabbi of the Ashkenazi Jewish community in Cairo) and to “all of the famous rabbis who all come in one brit”: “Lately a printed letter arrived in the name of Sefer HaAgudah, on the opening of Sha’ar Natziv V’ira, a cornerstone for rabbis. I went over it happily because it raised up within me the desire to speak my heart on Hashem’s behalf…until when will you continue to take from your plate without looking around you to see what goes on, how long will our teachings wallow in the ashes and cry out in bitterness? When will we join hands and make one agudah of the Rabbanim…may Hashem’s light shine upon us and may one Torah be spread from Jerusalem.” Written on the outer sides of a folded sheet of paper. 14x22cm. Filing holes damage the text, tear in the upper part without damaged text, overall good condition.
