Letter from the 9th of Elul 1981, addressed to rabbis and administrators of Ezrat Torah New York, in which he asks for support on the behalf of a young man, “David Cohen” from the Grad Soloveitchik yeshiva. “Since I have become engaged, I have come with a request to help me with the large expenses that go into the wedding.” Under that are handwritten lines from Rav Soloveitchik, “I hereby certify that the above man is truthful and I recommend that money be provided to him as a blessing and a mitzvah for you.” Signed M. Rabbi Meshulam David HaLevi Soloveitchik (born 1922) is the son of the gaon the Griz of Brisk and son-in-law of Rabbi Asher Sternbach of London. He is leader of one of the Brisker yeshivot in Jerusalem and it is well-known for its unique style of learning, and as a scion of the Brisker family he has well-known chumrot and dikdukei halachot.
