Lot 152:
Letter on official letterhead written and signed by Rabbi Henkin, from the end of 1939, regarding acceptance of a get. Stamped with the engraved stamp of the “Ezrat Torah” organization in New York.
Rabbi Yosef Eliyahu Henkin (1881-1973) was the son of Rabbi Eliezer of Klimovitz. He was among the gedolei poskei hador of the United States and was considered by Rabbi Elyashiv as the Mara d’Atra of America. He was one of the first students of Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer at his yeshiva in Slotzk, and was certified by him and by the Ridbaz, as well as Rabbi Baruch Beer Leibovitz and Rabbi Yehiel Michal HaLevi Epstein (the Aruch HaShulchan). He served for a number of years as a rabbi of several towns in Georgia, where he was sent with the blessing of Rabbi Haim of Brisk, with whom he was in regular correspondence. There is also evidence of regular correspondence between him and the Rogachover Rebbe and other gedolim of the period. He was the president of the Ezrat Torah organization, which supported thousands, including in building apartments. He wrote: Lev Ivra, Perushei Ivra, and more.
