Mussar and kabbalah based on the Gra. The most famous work of Rabbi Haim of Volozhin, one of the Gra’s greatest students and founder of the Volozhin yeshiva. In this book he explains the Lithuanian theosophy, written as an alternative to the novel ideas of the Chassidic movement, and Rabbi Haim sharply criticizes the Chassidic ideas. His grandson, the Brisker Rav, called the Nefesh Chayyim “Shulchan Aruch b’Hashkafa”. Second edition, this edition has many notes that do not appear in the first edition and also tempered some language that was too severe. Vilna 1837. 126 pages. 20.5cm. Original binding is detached. Tape on the top of 3 pages. Stains. Overall very good condition.
