Auction 34
Lot 065:
Old rectangular tzedakah box with an engraving of the word tzedakah. Additional engraving of “Chevrat HaChayatim” and an illustration of a needle (chayat = tailor). Handle for holding. The cover opens along hinges. Inside are metal chains which make the box sound like it has coins even when it is empty (solving a well-known problem of collecting money when it is still empty and people elect not to be the first). Inside is a torn page with the writing: “Szatmar K?azncli u” (Satmar?). Old box from before World War II. Size: 10.5x16cm. Height: 14cm. Various defects, overall good condition.
