Descriptions of the Land of Israel accompanied by printings in color based on illustrations by the artist Luigi Mayer, printed in London in 1804. Second section: Views in the Ottoman Empire. With two separate covers in English and French. Descriptions accompanied by illustrations by the same artist, describing famous sights in the Empire, many in Karaman (Turkey), printed in 1803. Partially missing copy—first section is missing 6 illustrations and the second has 20 out of 24 in the original. Size: 35x49cm. Size of the printings: 31×23. With wide margins. Original binding, with slight water stains, generally good condition.

The illustrator Luigi Mayer drew in the period before the book’s printing for the British/Scottish diplomat Robert Ainslie, who was an art collector and served then as Ambassador of Britain to the Ottoman Empire. He commissioned these illustrations on important sites in the Empire, which were then used in this book.
