Lot 268:
Colored by hand, depicting the Old City of Jerusalem. Shows the walls with the mosque in the background, people wearing the local chequered clothing on the way to the gate. On both sides are smaller illustrations of Damascus Gate and David’s Citadel. At the bottom is an inscription noting that the work was done by “A. Pann” in 1918. Signed with his full name. Size: 64x38cm. Repairs and defects, overall fair condition.
Abel Pann (1883-1963) was born in Kreslavka, Russia. He was a Jewish artist who worked mainly in Israel, served for a period as a teacher at the Betzalel Academy in Jerusalem. He frequently depicted the conflicts within the Jewish community that took place during his lifetime, as well as stories from Tanach, alongside figures and symbols from the present.
