Oil painting showing the onset of shabbat in a town: a woman lights the Shabbat candles, and in the background are represented the three stages referred to in the prayer before the kiddush: “I lit the candles and I made my bed and I changed my dress for the honor of the day of shabbat.” With set beds and the wearing of festive robes in the upper right. Natan Haber (1902-1975) was an Israeli artist born in Poland. He was born in Zlochov to a family of religious shochtim. In 1936 he moved with his wife and children to Israel and settled in Haifa, where he established a poultry butcher shop. In the 1960s, after retiring, he began to paint depictions of his family life in Poland, traditional figures and more. His creations, which utilize a naïve style, are painted with dark colors.
