Typewritten letter signed by Rabbi Zalman Sorotzkin, Av Beit Din of Lutzk and head of the Va’ad Yeshivot in Israel. The letter, from 4th of Tammuz 1952, is addressed to “Rosh Yeshivat Ohel Torah in Jerusalem, ” with good news that “the Joint Committee answered our request and decided to double the budget for the yeshivot…” Included is the envelope in which the letter was sent. 16x21cm. Signs of folding, moth holes, overall good condition.


Rabbi Zalman Sorotzkin (1880-1966) was the son of Rabbi Ben Zion. He was Av Beit Din of Lutzk in Ukraine before the Shoah, and served as the head of the Council of Torah Sages, a leader of the Va’ad Yeshivot and the Independent Education group. He won the Rav Kook Prize for Rabbinical Literature in 1952. The book Ohalei Shem describes him thusly: “This excellent rabbi is highly skilled, and besides his greatness in Torah he is also well-versed in the sciences, and received accreditation in all subjects at the Gymnasium, and he could also be selected to be the official rabbi of any place in Russia. He is also a wonderful darshan, thinker, and listener.”
