Lot 221:
Letter of recommendation handwritten and signed by Rabbi Haim HaLevi Soloveitchik of Brisk. From the 13th of Nissan, 1911. He praises Rabbi Yaakov Moshe ben Rabbi Avraham Yitzhak, the Av Beit Din of the Ashkenazim of Kremenzug. He writes that he met with him and discussed an issue of halacha and that he was “a gadol in all of his discussion of the gemara and sevara…” He ends by apologizing “because my days are focused on Pesach and thus my words are short, Haim HaLevi Soloveitchik.” Notes the date and bears his official stamp. Size 13.5x21cm. Creases, tape on the back, stains, light tears on the sides, overall good condition.
Rabbi Haim HaLevi Soloveitchik (Reb Haim Brisker) (1853-1918) was one of the greatest rabbinical figures of the 20th century and the forefather of the Brisker method of study. He left an indelible mark on Charedi Judaism, both because of his scholarly method of study and because of his chumrot which are still accepted to this day by many groups. His works have been accepted widely and are highly considered in the yeshiva world.
