Organized, interesting Ashkenazi manuscript with Shut Ohel Yisrael by Rabbi Yisrael Brandt, Av Beit Din of Copenhagen, on the book of Mahari Weil “Shechitot u’Bedikot” (first published in Wansbach 1733). The beginning of the work is missing, it begins on siman 32 [leaf 5], and ends on siman 128 [leaf 15, page 2] at the end of the work. [22] written pages. 15.5x19cm. The writing matches the 18th century. Not bound, quality paper. Stains, moth damage, and moisture marks. Faded writing in some places. Overall good condition. Not checked thoroughly whether this is an autograph by the author or a copy.

The author, Rabbi Yisrael bar Issachar Brandt (Berendt—died 1732) was the great-grandson and grandson (different sides) of Rabbi Natan Feitel Teumim, a sage of Vienna. Served as rabbi of Altona and later as Av Beit Din of Copenhagen (Denmark). He wrote Ohel Avraham on the Mahari Weil’s book Shechitot u’Bedikot and received an endorsement from Rabbi Moshe Chagiz, who wrote “to no shochet should permission be given to slaughter…until one has first found that he is well-versed and expert from memory and in written examination of this small book…”. See more about him in the work by Rabbi Ish Zacharish Bamoriya, p. 397-399, 2015.
