Lot 059:
Two volumes containing the work Shnei Luchot HaBrit—among the most important books in the Jewish library for generations. Written by Rabbi Yeshayahu HaLevi Horwitz of Frankfurt, the Shla HaKadosh. With ‘Vavei HaAmudim’ by Rabbi Shabtai Sheptil Horwitz, the author’s son, and indices ‘Toldot Adam’. At the beginning of each volume are two title pages, with an additional page for the Vavei HaAmudim. Printed in New York—this edition is a facsimile of the beautiful Amsterdam edition, a known segula edition published under the name “Shla Nachat”, printed by Emmanuel ben Yosef Attias in 1698. The Rayatz of Lubavitch (2:853) writes about this edition: “The symbol of Nachat points to the fact that the reveal of this holy book led to “a pleasant [nachat] spirit” from above, and in that year the Baal Shem Tov was born. The Baal Shem Tov was born the year of the Shla’s printing in order to enlighten the world with the light of Torah and Yirat Shamayim.” [4], 264, [1], 264-422, 44, [12] leaves. Handsome title page with the shepherds: Moshe, Aaron, Yosef and David, each wearing one of the crowns of Torah, Kehuna, Malchut, and Shem Tov. Light defects, stains, overall good condition.
