Lot 051:
The first work is organized as a “debate between a harif and a baki on the proper path, methods of learning, and how a man can swim through the ocean of Talmud.” By Rabbi Yehuda Leib HaKohen Fishman, Av Beit Din of Markolest. With an endorsement by the Aruch HaShulchan and more. Printed during the author’s lifetime. 47 leaves. At the beginning is a nice rhyming poem about the book, by the author’s brother. Bound with the first issue of HaYona, the literary and Talmudic monthly journal edited by Rabbi Yehuda Leib HaKohen Fishman (same as above). First issue from the first year. Odess 1907. 46 pages. At the end is an interesting Judaic riddle (logographic). Light stains, overall good condition.
Rabbi Yehuda Leib HaKohen Fishman ben Rabbi Avraham Elimelech (1876-1965) changed his name to Maimon because of a family tradition that they were descendants of the Rambam. He was the grandson of Rabbi Mordechai HaKohen os Sotnov. In 1900 he was appointed the rabbi of Markolest, and in 1905 in Ungeni (Serbia). In 1912 he moved to Jerusalem. He was a leader of the Mizrahi movement, and even served as Minister of Religious Affairs in 1948. He also wrote “Sarei HaMe’ah.”
