Lot 226:
Rabbi Nachum Pertzowich of Mir writes a warm condolence letter to the parents of Naftali Karpman, the Chassidic kabbalist Rabbi Mordechai Moshe Karpman of Jerusalem and his wife, on the early death of their son. He talks at great length about the son’s skills and wishes with a blessing that the End of Days arrives soon and that death and such sadness will end. 15.8×19.5cm, signs of folding, no defects, excellent condition. Rabbi Nachum ben Zvi Aryeh Pertzowich (1923-1987) was head of the Mir yeshiva and an important Torah leader. His series “Chiddushei Rabbi Nachum” and “Shiurei Rabbi Nachum” have become valuable resources in yeshivot, the former of which was written based on recordings of his daily shiurim and came out before the parallel work on more general shiurim. In his lessons he operated according to the Brisker method, and he would base himself upon the language of the Germara and the Rishonim without trying to add his own interpretation. He would quote greatly from Rabbi Baruch Beer Leibowitz and Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman, and his father-in-law Rabbi Haim Shmuelevitz. His sons and son-in-law are great Torah scholars, including Rabbi Asher Arieli of Mir.
