A rare postcard with a portrait picture of Rabbi Yesheyale Kerestirer. Underneath the picture are the words “May God open his wonderful treasure trove for you Rabbeinu Yeshaya Steiner” with an interesting addition “L’Shana Tovah Tikteivu.” Died suddenly on 3rd Iyar 1925. With writing in Latin letters. An uncommon postcard with a better quality photograph than those that appear on the previously known posters. His photograph is known to be a segulah (see below). Various blemishes, tears at the edges that do not damage the body of the postcard, slight stains. Very good overall condition. 9 x 13.5 cm. Rabbi Yeshaya Steiner (1852 – 1925) of Kerestir was one of the foremost and most renowned rebbes in Hungary. The rebbe, who was orphaned from his father at the age of 3, was sent at the age of 12 by his widowed mother to study from Rabbi Zvi Hirsch of Liska, where he remained until his teacher died, and then succeeded him, but he remained humble and not haughty. Rabbi Yeshayale was considered to be a miracle worker and there are many miraculous stories told about him. To this day many thousands of people go to pray at his grave, and there are many stories of miracles about prayer at his grave. He was known for his merciful heart and his famous concern for the livelihood of other Jews. His photograph is known to be segulah against mice in the house following an incident in which mice left a wheat storehouse following his blessing, and that following his blessing mice ate the lawsuit pending against a chassid.
