The researcher Avraham Ya’ari, in his introduction to his book Shluchei Eretz Yisrael, writes “one of the things that emissaries of Eretz Yisroel knewto bring with them to the Diaspora was the land that he brought with him, although he could never fully fulfill their desire for it, for he could not carry with him in his many wanderings sacks laden with earth. He wouldn’t sell the soil of the Land of Israel but he honored generous people by giving such things to them. Of course, this reward was generously received. As early as the seventeenth century, the emissaries of the Land of Israel used to bring them dust from the land of Israel. 14×4.5cm. Light defects, generally good condition.
