Auction 4
Lot 094:
Wonderful facsimile published by the National and University Library of Jerusalem, printed in Tel Aviv. The National Library holds a number of illustrated Megillot Esther, but the most unique (and perhaps also the oldest—perhaps one of the oldest in the world) is from 1616. It was written and illustrated by Moshe ben Avraham Pascarol in Ferrara, Italy. It is more than 4 meters long, and is 27cm high. It was ordered by a person named Mordechai ben Eliyahu HaLevi, who lived in a small town called Brescello adjacent to Ferrara—according to the biographical information written at the end of the Megillah. Generally good condition.
