Lot 155:
By Rabbeinu Asher, Segel printing, Zolkva 1803. Cover page has the signature handwritten by Rabbi Yehoshua Freund. Also written on the cover is a note that his son donated the book to the Sha’arei Zion Beit Midrash. Rabbi Yehoshua Freund (1767-1848) was the son of Rabbi Yitzhak Karov, Rabbi of Papa from a rabbinical family descended from Rashi. Rabbi Yehoshua of Kraly was beloved by many Admorim and rabbis, including the Yismach Moshe of Satmar, the Chozeh of Lublin, and more. His mother died when he was a baby, and he only once was nursed by a non-Jew, and the Yismach Moshe said “If Rabbi Yosha had not been breastfed by a non-Jew, I and the Lubliner Rebbe would have been ashamed of him.” He was named Yehoshua after the Pnei Yehoshua, who died a few years before he was born and was related to him (he was the uncle of his great-grandfather). He was the forefather of the Freund family that gave birth to many rabbis, including his grandson Rav Avraham Yehoshua Freund Manasod (who praised his forefather in the book Gedolat Yehoshua), Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund (Ga’avad of the Charedi Eida), and more. His son Rabbi Tuvya Gedalya Freund moved to Jerusalem and donated the book to the Sha’arei Zion Beit Midrash. | Dark, thick, high quality paper. Stians. Reinforcement with tape on the cover. Missing part of the binding and the lower left-hand corner of some pages, no missing text. Stamps, signatures, and a dedication. | [1], 98; 9; 8 pages. 38cm. Generally good condition.
