Buyer's premium:

First part (out of two) of an infamous anti-Semitic work in German by Johann Andrea Eisenmengers, considered one of the precursors of modern anti-Semitism in the 18th century. With quotes from a huge number of Jewish sources in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Yiddish, such as the Talmud Bavli, the Zohar, siddurs, writings of the Rambam and Ramban. While the texts are quoted accurately in Hebrew, and translated word-for-word, the author uses a distorted interpretation of what is said. The book was nicknamed by Shimon Dubnov “The Encyclopedia of Jew Hatred.” The Jewish community in Frankfurt succeeded in having the book stopped and banned the first edition, so there are almost no copies of it left. One copy is known to exist in the collection of Gershom Scholem in the National Library. | First edition. Rare. Stains, original and pretty half-leather binding. [18], 998 pages. 21cm. Generally good condition.
