Shot, chiddushim, and drashot. By Gaon Rabbi Yosef Steinhardt, Av Beit Din of Furth. First edition, printed by RavItzik ben RavLeib Buchbinder. In his introduction he strongly attacks chassidut, and calls it a cult. He writes that “there is no rest from them…they make most of their days holidays…and their prayers hurt the ears…they make various noises…like a monkey to man…G-d save us from them.” And more. Some copies of this text have removed the introductory attack against chassidim. Rav Steinhardt writes that he was greatly punished for it with the deaths of his children and grandchildren. | He lived 1720-1776, was Av Beit Din of Furth (Germany). A significant posek and influential rabbi, considered one of the clearest sages from the Achronim period. Student of the Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Poprash, the Shev Yaakov, in Frankfurt. One of the greatest teachers of his time, and he corresponded with the greatest rabbis of the period, questions were sent to him from Hungary, Italy, Holland, and Switzerland. He was married three times.
