Lot 235:
A letter in the handwriting and with the signature of the roshyeshiva of Volozhin Rabbi Chaim Walkin. Rabbi Chaim Walkin (1897-1941) was the last rosh yeshiva of the Volozhin yeshiva. In his youth he studied in the yeshivot of Kelm, Telz and Mir. He married the daughter of the rosh yeshiva of Volozhin Rabbi Yaacov Shapiro and after his father-in-law’s death was appointed as rosh yeshiva of Volozhin until the Second World War forced it to be closed. Upon the outbreak of the war he fled with the students of the yeshiva to Vilna, where he was murdered by the Nazis together with his wife and daughters. His nephew, who is named after him, is Rabbi Chaim Walkin, mashgiach of the Ateret Yisrael yeshiva in Jerusalem. The letter is on an official letterhead of the yeshiva. Filing holes in the top section. Overall condition: Very Good.
