Lot 336:
Mussar and kabbalah, the most famous book by Rabbi Haim of Volozhin, one of the greatest students of the Vilna Gaon and founder of the Volozhin yeshiva. In the book, he lays out the Lithuanian philosophy, written as an alternative to the progressive ideas of the Chassidic movement, and Rabbi Haim criticizes these Chassidic ideas severely. His grandson, the Brisker Rav, nicknamed this book “the Shulchan Aruch of Hashkafa”. Second edition – in this edition are many glosses that don’t appear in the first edition, and a number of words that were too strongly phrased have been dampened. | The page after the cover has the handwritten signature of Rabbi Menachem MEnchin Halprin (1844-1924), one of the greatest Lithuanian and Jerusalemite Kabbalists, a head of the Sha’ar HaShamayim yeshiva. New binding, professional repair to the cover. Lone moth marks. 126 pages. 22cm. Good condition.
