Lot 277:
Siddur Beit HaOtzar, Sephard liturgy with a book of Tehillim at the end. Bilgoraj, 1929. A separate title page for the Book of Tehillim. | On the leaf before the title page is an ownership inscription: “Belongs to Reb Gershon Ruber Meshamesh B’Kodesh of the Rebbe of Belz, 14 HaGesher Street…Tel Aviv”, and yartzeit inscriptions on the endpaper. | Reb Gershon was the meshamesh of the Rebbe of Belz, he was the oldest of the gabbaim, due to which, as well as to his personality, he was the one to say anything to the Rebbe which the other gabbaim were afraid to say. One of his roles was that when the Rebbe conducted a tisch for a long time, and the gabbaim were concerned about his health, he would cough loudly, until the Rebbe would send someone to tell Reb Gershon that he will soon finish [which could take another hour]. The Rebbe of Belz blessed him with longevity, and he indeed lived longer than the Rebbe. It is told that in his old age, when he became sick, he asked to be carried to the grave of the Rebbe, where he said, “I do not desire this type of longevity”, and died a short time later. | Leather binding, partially detached and reinforced with sellotape. Moth signs | [1], 401; 70, 39 leaves. 16 cm. | Overall condition: Good.
