Buyer's premium:

The book Mishnah Berurah, by Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaCohen of Radin, the ‘Chafetz Chaim’. Warsaw, 1896. Cloth binding with original leather spine, with embossing. On the first page [on the leaf before the title page] of the book is the word “Mugeh [proofread]” in the handwriting of the Chafetz Chaim [in pencil]. The Chafetz Chaim was careful to check every book he sold, to ensure that he would not be guilty of stealing and fraud, and he wrote “mugeh” in his own handwriting on every book that was checked. [He wrote it himself, as he was concerned that others would write “Mugeh” without sufficiently checking]. Many of these inscriptions disappeared over the years, due to rebinding of the books, or erasing of the inscription which was usually written in pencil. Ownership inscriptions: “Yosef Menachem Mendel Heren Av Beit Din of Viskot”. And ownership stamp. 154 leaves. 24 cm. Tiny signs of moths and wear. Overall condition: Very good.
