Lot 131:
The letter ‘Pay’ in the word ‘pen’ in the verse ‘pen yiftehlevavchem’ is curled. It is known that the scribes Rabbi Zvi Hirsch and Rabbi Ephraim – the Ba’al Shem Tov’s scribes wrote the letter ‘pay’ in this manner. Many Kabbalistic explanations have been given for this. The scholar YehoshuaTwersky, in his book BechatzarHaTzadik writes: “Apart from the hidden, what is revealed in the Ba’al Shem Tov’s Torah scroll, which is clearly visible to all who look at it? The form of some of the letters is slightly different… the ‘pay’ is also different from the familiar, accepted ’pay’. In a standard ‘pay’, the part which descends from the top of the letter is bent, on its left side, and bends inward. This bend differentiates between the ‘pay’ and the ‘kaf’. The bent part of Rabbi ZviSofer’s ‘pay’ could even be like a small pay. Such letter ‘pays’ are referred to by scribes as double pays. I saw such a pay in the Tefillin of Rabbi Ephraim Sofer, who preceded Rabbi ZviSofer by several years. Incidentally, the parshiyot of Rabbi Ephraim Sofer’s tefillin are very important in the Chassidic world”. The parshiyot of Shema and V’hayaImShamoa are joined together. 90×5 cm. Nice handwriting. General condition: Very good.
