It is known that Rabbi Lopes dealt with the matter of saving the children of Israel, particularly in the new immigrant camps. The letter is addressed to Rabbi Shmuel Shadrovitzky regarding Yemenite children in Hadera and more. The letter reflects the Rabbi’s activities. Rabbi Lopes was a prominent rabbi at Yeshivat Porat Yosef. He was certified as a teacher by Jerusalem’s rabbis and he founded together with Rabbi Yehuda Tzadka the “Makabziel” organization, a Torah framework for Jerusalem’s sefardic youth. Was appointed Dayan of the Sefaradic Beit Din of Jerusalem. He was close to many Jerusalem rabbis among them the Rabbi of Brisk, Rabbi Zvi Pessach Frank, Rabbi Amram Bloi and acted on their behalf. Among other things he worked with children at the immigrant camps and campaigned against the enrolment of women in the IDF. Founded the organization “Mazhirei Shabbat” that work towards the closure of shop and businesses in Jerusalem before Shabbat and is active still. In 1950 became Chief Rabbi of Acre and acted in this position for almost 50 years. Passed away in 1994. 22 x 22cm, in good condition.
