Lot 174:
Letter of defense written for the Lord and friend of the lawyer Giovambattista Benedetti from Ferrara. Written anonymously against his book that attacked Jews. Under the title “Dissertation Regarding the Birth and Oath of the Jews,” libelously referring to the above lawyer. The compiler dedicates in the introduction. The anonymous author bears his wrath upon the writing of the document that unfairly refers to the lawyer and brings legal claims against the unlawful action. Page 1-94. Letter of defense with date. From December 29, 1770, a letter of defense by the same anonymous author. Pages 95-110 is translation into Italian of the sections in Latin and French so that it will be understood by the whole population. The compiler of the apologia explains that his knowledge derives from familiarity with Jewish sources and his command of Hebrew that allows him to go into great detail and attack the defamations. 110, [1], VII page. 26cm.
