Rabbi Haim Elazar Spira (1871-1937), son of Rabbi Zvi Hirsch, fulfilled his father’s place in the rabbinate the Admorut. Established the Tiferet Zvi Kollel after his father and founded the Batei Munkatch small neighborhood in Nahlaot, Jerusalem. After WWI he founded the Darchei Teshuva yeshiva after his father’s composition. He was known as a strong opponent of Agudat Yisrael and Zionism. Famous for the story from Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, that during WWII someone asked the Admor for a passport to save his life. The Admor gave him an empty piece of paper—when that Jew showed that empty paper at all the borders, he was allowed through. On the card on both sides is writing in a local language.
