"Pri Hadash" on the Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De’ah, until the halachot of yayin nasach, by Gaon Rabbeinu Hizkiyahu di Silo. The only section printed during the life of the compiler, the rest were only published later, after his death. The book become a foundational text for psakei Halacha, and was mentioned by sages and compilers for generations afterwards. The book is characterized by a very original method, that examines the poskim that preceded him in a critical way according to references to the Talmud, without equivocation, but the independence and style also awakened criticism of it. When the book reached Egypt the sages banned it, but the student of the Pri Hadash, Reb Shlomo Elgazi, was appointed the Rabbi of Egypt and served there for 45 years, and he taught according to his teacher, so in later generations the book was received without condescension, and even printed in most editions of the Shulchan Aruch, and is used today as a foundational text. On the cover page are two signatures of ownership, one very old and unreadable. The second is Mendele ben Deligman…(2) 130 pages. The cover page is a nice copper engraving, the figures of King David playing the lyre, angels, plants, and more. Good condition, lone bits of moth damage, wear from use. 32cm. Old binding is worn.
