Historical letter from 20th of Shvat, 1947, an invitation to the mythic shochet of Nahalal, Rav Zecharya HaKohen to a discussion on establishing a site for the memory of those lost in the Shoah, in Israel (seemingly the Yad Vashem of today). Stamps of: Rav Eliyahu Mordechai HaLevi Valkovsky, member of the Chief Rabbinate, author of the set of books “The System of the Talmud and the Verses, ” Rav Yaakov Kalmas, rabbi of Moscow and member of the Chief Rabbinate during the foundation of the State of Israel, and stamp of the Committee for Remembrance of Kedoshei HaGola. Additional unidentified signature. HaRav Zecharya HaKohen, shochet v’bodek, lived in Nahalal and was responsible for religious affairs in the area’s moshavim. He was killed tragically, when one of Nahalal’s residents, Aviva Dayan (sister of Moshe Dayan), gave him a ride in her car, the car flipped, and he was killed. Following that event Aviva Dayan committed suicide for feeling responsible for his death. Therefore this is a truly historical letter! Tears with damage to the text. Tape. Moth marks, stains and signs of folding. Bad condition.
