פריט 256:
Exciting letter about the shidduch of an orphan (girl) following the arrangement of a ‘Kest’ (support for the groom for a number of years after the wedding so he’ll be able to study worry-free), as was typical at that time. At the top of the page are stamps of the Admor in Hebrew and the local language: “Ben Zion ben HaRav HaTzaddik Aharon Aryeh of Podoloy.” Below those are the date and the addressee, with blessings and well-wishes. At the beginning of his remarks, the writer opens with the fact that the Righteous Rebbe from Podoloy, Rabbi Ben Zion instructed him to write these things and all is written in the name of the Admor, and then he expounds upon his request to the recipient, that he speak to the boy Meshulam Singer (the groom), who is to marry Rivka Goldenbar, and calm him and make sure the shidduch will still go ahead and chas v’ won’t get cancelled, and then he mentions various financial considerations and the Kest and how to act and where to get more money, while mentioning the mercy needed for the orphan and for her mother the widow, which is why the mitzvah needs to be undertaken quickly. On the back of the letter are additional lines in Hebrew handwritten by the Admor himself, with his signature and stamp. Size 20x26cm. Large stain on the left-hand side of the page, which makes it difficult to read the text on both sides. Light stains, tears in the margins, creases from folding, generally ok to good condition.
The Admor Rabbi Ben Zion Moskowitz of Podoloy (Podol-Iluy, next to Iasi, Romania) was the son of the Admor Rabbi Alter Aharon Aryeh (son of Rabbi Yoel Moskowitz, founder of the Shatz dynasty, son-in-law of Rabbi Meir of Premyslan and grandson of Rabbi Haim of Stinov, son of Rabbi Yosef of Yompola, son of Rabbi Yehiel Michal the Maggid of Zlotchov), and son-in-law of Admor Rabbi Menachem Mendel Eichenstein of Olesk. He succeeded his father in Podoloy, and was murdered in the Shoah with his entire family in Iasi. Hy”d.
