Booklet of loans from the Gamach Sha’arei Chesed, shedding light on a central organization in Jerusalem life. Signatures are from Elul of 1951 to Cheshvan of the following year. Among the pages are signatures of important rabbis, who took loans or testified to the honesty of other debtors. Signatures include Rabbi Yaakov Yosef Herman (see the book “HaKol L’Adon HaKol”), who borrowed a loan. Another loan has a page attached to it handwritten and signed by one-time Ga’avad of the Charedi community, Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund, with a number of handwritten lines on the honesty of the person requesting the loan, with his official stamp (smudged) from when he was Avdak of Satmar. Rabbi Naftali Halberstam, later Admor of Chokova, also took a loan. Yosef Leifer signed as a debtor and left a Menorah with 5 branches as collateral. Meir Klires, the son of Rabbi Moshe Klires of Tiberias, and other signatures from Jerusalem communities appear. Historic item shedding light on life during this period of Jerusalem’s history.
