Six volumes of the Sisha Sidrei Mishnah with "nine new supplements, " printed and published by the Romm Brothers in Vilna. Seder Zeraim and Nashim were printed in 1937. Seder Moed, Nezikin and Kadshim were printed in 1926. Seder Teharot was printed in 1928. Two title pages for each volume. Stains in one volume, light blemishes, purple cut edges. 6 volumes in original, preserved bindings in fine condition.
The back of the binding has a pasted, typed inscription from the 18th of Tevet, 1941, testifying that the copy was gifted by Rabbi Yaakov Melamed to his nephew Aryeh Chaim Melamed upon his bar mitzvah, with acrostics of his full name with blessings and guidance for life, signed with his full name: Yaakov and Rochel Melamed Cohen.
Rabbi Yaakov Chaim Melamed-Cohen (1900-1992) ben Rabbi Rachamim was an educator and Jerusalem community activist, a member of the Histadrut HaMizrachi, Council of the Persian Community, and the Sephardic Council in Jerusalem. He was a noted and distinguished speaker in batei knesset, youth clubs and the Kol Yisrael Radio. As a Kohen, he was a popular choice as Kohen for pidyon haben ceremonies, to prepare youth for their bar mitzvot and to arrange weddings and Kiddushin. His home was open to all and he was renowned for his ability to bring peace and harmony to troubled marriages. He helped many families with charity funds, administered bequests, served as guardian for widows and orphans and organized many charity campaigns for the poor of Jerusalem. He authored: Siddur Abir Yaakov and Tehilim with the Na'avah Tehilah commentary, written after the death of his wife, Rochel in 1986.
