“Questions and answers, first section”, with important studies into halacha by Rabbi Elazar of Kalin—first edition. Exciting letter of endorsement by Rabbeinu the Chatam Sofer. [4], 84 pages. Repaired cover, various stains, rebound, defects to the binding, generally good condition. Cover has a signature of ownership: “Avraham Aharon Katz”—probably Rabbi Avraham Aharon Katz of Nietra. The blank first page has a stamp from “the library of Avraham Moshe Babad, Rabbi in Jebli.” Additional stamp of his on the cover, erased, see below. Handwritten note in pencil in the body of the work. Rabbi Avraham Aharon Katz of Nietra (1869/1874-1930) was the son of Rabbi Moshe Prostitz, a student of the Shevet Sofer and Rabbi Moshe Zvi Hirsch Fox of Grosvardin. Served as a teacher in Nietra from 1900, and in 1927 he was appointed to the rabbinate in place of his father. He was certified by his uncle Rabbi David Friedman of Tze’ilim. His son, Rabbi Eliyahu Katz, was a rabbi in Beer Sheva. Rabbi Avraham Moshe Babad (1900-1980) was the son of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Babad, and a rabbi and chassidic rosh yeshiva in Bukovina and Israel, a student of the Gaon Rabbi Meir Arik of Tornov. He inherited his father’s position, and after WWII tried to immigrate to Israel but was sent to Cyprus in 1948 by the British, where he served as rabbi of the detention camp. After making it to Israel he was in constant contact with the Chazon Ish. Around 1952 he was appointed for a time as the Rosh Yeshiva of Yechel Yisrael of the Seret-Vizhnitz Chassidic community, led by his son-in-law Admor Rabbi Baruch Hager.
