Letter from Rav Haim Yaakov Goldwicht, head of the Kerem B’Yavne yeshiva.

Written when Rav Godwicht studied at the Etz Haim yeshiva, as he signs at the bottom of the letter “from the Etz Haim yeshiva.” Sent to Rav Shmuel Aharon Shatzdarovitzky. Regarding a request by Rav Goldwicht that he insure him a place on a youth list for a national list of some organization (probably Agudat Yisrael) as a representative of bnei yeshivot. Rabbi Haim Yaakov Goldwicht (1925-1995) was born in Strauss, Jerusalem, to Rabbi Yisrael Elazer Goldwicht, a ninth generation Jerusalemite. He studied at Etz Haim, while developing connections to Rav Yitzhak Zeev Soloveitchik. He also studied in Slobodka in Bnei Brak, and developed a connection with the Chazon Ish. Founded the first Kerem B’Yavne yeshiva, the first yeshivat hesder. Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Shatzdarovitzky (1907-1978) was the son of Rabbi Meir Shalom, the Admor of Kovrin-Bialystock, who was the son-in-law of Rabbi Menachem Nachum Epstein, founder of the Chassidic dynasty. Rabbi Shmuel Aharon married the daughter of Rabbi Pinchas Issachar, the Admor of Pinchov Sosnowitz. As a young avrech he was appointed secretary of the Agudat Yisrael in Vilna, and was close to Rabbi Haim Ozer Grodzinsky. During World War II he managed to escape and reached Israel in 1943. | The letter is written on the back of official letterhead of the central Agudat Yisrael. 21.5×16.5cm.
