Lot 94:
Couple of large, original and rare photographs of the famed institution Tachkemoni Gavoha in Bialystok, Poland. The photographs depict the rabbis and students of the yeshiva; some of their names were written on the matboard of the picture. It was also written there that the pictures were taken in 1923 as a souvenir from the farewell party to the Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Shlomo Polachek – the Iluy of Meytshet, who immigrated to America at the end of that year to serve as the Rosh Yeshiva of Rabbeinu Elchanan in New York (the Yeshiva University).
The captions on the picture were apparently written by a student of the institution several years after it was taken. The names include the Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Shlomo POlachek – the Iluy of Meytshet, Rabbi David Paians – Rosh Av Beit Din of Bialyztok, Rabbi Lipa Pat – the chairman of the Tachkemoni committee, Rabbi Shalom Meisel – the principal, Rabbi Yaakov Blidstein – the Rav of Choroshtz and the son-in-law of his uncle Rabbi Zalman Sender Shapira, Rabbi Baruch Eliyahu Halperin. Additional names of students were written on the matboard with numbers written with pen on the picture, forming a rare historical documentation.
Size of each unframed photograph: approx. 22.5X14.5 cm. Mounted on matboard matching the period in which the pictures were taken. Blemishes and fractures to frames. Stains, fading and other blemishes.
