Sefer Aseifat Zekeinim, "which is Chidushei Masechet Ketubot known as Talmud Katan compiled by Rabbi Bezalel Ashkenazi… titled Shitah Mekubetzet". A single volume containing both sections. Lemberg – 1837. Originally, [1], 133 [i.e. 130]; 128 leaves. In this copy, the last 3 leaves are missing. Stains and some moth perforations and other minor blemishes. Old binding. Good overall condition. 

Fascinating! A copy that was passed from one disciple to the other of the disciples of Rabbi Simcha Bonem Sofer, the Shevet Sofer – the Rav of Pressburg and Rosh Yeshiva. 

On the title page of the book, the following ownership notations: 

– Mosrtly erased stamp of Rabbi Moshe Tuvia Hacohen Fischer. 

–  קניתי לכבוד צורי וקוני מאת הב’ ליב פריעדמאן … אני שמחה ק’ ברמ"י אבעלעס…" 

– "קניתיו מהב’ שמחה אבעלעס…" 

– "… ויצא תרנ"ה לפ"ק, הב’ שמואל בנימין רייך בודאפעשט, פה פרעשבורג…".



Rabbi Yehuda Leib Friedman Rosh Av Beit Din of Pressburg (1863-1919) the son of Rabbi David and son-in-law of Rabbi Sheraga Feisch Fishman, Maggid Meisharim of Pressburg. A disciple of the Shevet Sofer. After his marriage was accepted as Dayan in Pressburg, where his father-in-law lived, and succeeded Rabbi David Neuman as Rosh Av Beit Din of the town. Author of Sefer Shut HaRibad – in his approbation for the book, the Da’at Sofer wrote: ‘נודע ביהודה בשערים המצויינים בהלכה הגאון המחבר ז"ל על ידי עוצם חריפותו וגדולתו בתורה, כי היה סיני ועוקר הרים צלל במים אדירים… ורבים שתו מבאר תורתו’ (Hachatam Sofer Vetalmidav, 1913). 

Rabbi Shmuel Binyamin Reich Av Beit Din of Verboi (ca. 1880-1959) a disicple of the Shevet Sofer. The son of Rabbi Yaakov Kopel Reich Av Beit Din of Budapest. By his first marriage was the son-in-law of Rabbi Shlomo Sofer Av Beit Din of Bergesas, the son of the Ketav Sofer. In the last decade of his life, immigrated to Jerusalem. 

Rabbi Simcha Abeles (1864-1926) a disciple of the Shevet Sofer. Was born in Vietzen to his father Rabbi Moshe Yehuda. Immigrated to the USA, where he served as Rav of the Tiferet Yehuda community of New York.
