Rabbi Baruch Bendit Gvitin (1770-1842) was the son of Rabbi Zvi. He was a student in the yeshiva of the Marham Mintz in Brody. His first marriage was to the daughter of Rabbi Chanoch Henich Zilber, and he was appointed to the rabbinate by Rabbi Binyamin Zeev Wolff Boskowitz. He was appointed dayan in the beit din of Rabbi Meir Eisenstadt in Yarmouth. Later he was appointed to the rabbinate of Hedies, where he remained until his death 45 years later. He established a yeshiva there.

His famous work, Kesef Nivchar, was first published in Prague and covers 160 sugiyot of Shas and discusses the issues from all the sources from the Gemara through to the first Achronim. The work merited endorsements and praise from sages of his generation, including the Maharam Mintz, the Chatam Sofer and others, and became a foundational work in Hungarian yeshivot.
