Lot 163:
Psak din with unknown family details about Ra’avad Rabbi Pinchas Epstein, signed by Rabbi Mordechai Leib Rubin and other dayanim—Rabbi Yitzhak Frankel and Rabbi David Zvi Karlenstein. Jerusalem 1926.
The psak din is about arranging a get, and financial matters between the Ra’avad (then “dayan”) Rabbi Pinchas Epstein and his wife Marat Rachel bat Rabi Meir Heller. The rabbi’s first wife, Chaya Pesil Shalom, passed away in 1924, and then about four years later he married his second wife, Shoshanah. This document informs us that he married another woman soon after his first wife’s death but divorced her a short time later in 1926.
20x28cm. Light wear to the top of the leaf, good condition.
Rabbi Pinchas Epstein (died 1970) served as a dayan in the Beit Din of the Charedi Eda under Rabbi Yosef Haim Zonenfeld and Rabbi Yitzhak Yerucham Diskin. He studed in the Torat Haim yeshiva. In 1948 he was chosen as Ra’avad of the Eda after Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis transferred to serve as Ga’avad. He wrote Oriyan Tlitai.
Rabbi Mordechai Leib Rubin (1871-1929) studied at the Slobodka and Mir yeshivot. He served as rabbi of Ekron (in the Shfela) and a few years later moved to Jerusalem, where he became among its most famous rabbis, before (in 1924) being appointed Ra’avad of Jerusalem at the beit din of the Ga’avad Rabbi Yosef Chaim Zonnenfeld.
