Pamphlet “Yesod Agudat Takanat Agunot by the Vaad Rabanim of the Jewish Synagogues of England”, published in London 1917. 8 pages. A rare booklet which we could not locate in bibliographic lists including the Bibliographic Database of the Hebrew Book.

After the First World War, many halachic questions arose on the topic of Agonot—many women whose husbands fought on the battlefields or were absent due to the war, were left alone without the ability to marry, which is why Rabbi Kook, later Chief Rabbi of the Land of Israel, established in London a committee for the regulation of Agunot whose role was to regulate the issue as quickly as possible and to deal with any grievances. The committee’s conclusions were presented in this small pamphlet. It also contains instructions for rabbis on how to act for the benefit of the common good, as well as asking sages to give drashot on the subject and to specialize in this part of the Torah in order to increase the number of those who could serve ons courts. On the back of the pamphlet, Rabbi Kook’s name appears in Hebrew as an address for letters.

Brittle paper, detached jacket, overall good condition.
