Sefer Mesorat Sayag LaTorah, an ancient and important work of mesorah (with guidelines for writing a sefer torah using the Rabati v’Zeira lettering, full and empty spaces, open and closed parshiyot, the formatting of Shirat HaYam and Ha’azinu and more, niqqud and spelling) by Rabbi Meir ben Tordus HaLevi Abulafia, one of the Rishonim and the author of the Yad Rama. The work is organized alphabetically with a likkutei mesorah at the end.
First edition, printed by Yitzhak de Pas, Florence 1750. [6], 90 leaves. Catalogued in the National Library’s Rare Books section. Stefanski Sifrei Yesod 523 of the appendices. Many approbations from rabbanim across Italy: Livorno, Venice, Florence, Turin, Rome, Reggio, Fontanella, Siena, and more, including the kabbalist Rabbi Shimshon Chaim Nachmani, the author of the
Zera Shimshon.
Published on the basis of the author’s manuscript, which was ganuz under the ownership of Rabbi Yisrael Binyamin Boson, a gadol among the poets of Italy, successor of his father Rabbi Yeshayahu Boson in the rabbinate of Reggio and friend of the Ramchal in Padua (who studied under his father and who honored his wedding by writing the drama Migdal Oz).
