Start price: $500

Buyer's premium:

A volume containing booklets 1-5 of Shemesh Tzeddakah – reports of the Vaad Haklali. Yoel Moshe Solomon Press, Jerusalem [1885-1887].

The booklet contain reports on the sources of the funds – donors’ names, who raised the funds, amount of donation etc. Their second part contains monetary expenses – who received donations and their community, varied public expenses etc. Each booklet also contains a foreword, letters by the rabbis of Jerusalem and Tiberius.

The Vaad Haklali was the central charity orgamnization of the old Yishuv of Jerusalem. Thus, these booklets are a primary source of the history of the Jews of Jerusalem in that period. These booklets were published, among others, to demonstrate that the organization was conducting itself  with transparency and honesty and that all donations reach their destination. Natrurally, they were soon thrown away; therefore, these booklets are extremely rare! To the best of our knowledge, these booklets were auctioned only once in the past.

Please refer to Hebrew catalog text for a descrption on the booklets.
