Lot 122:
Two volumes of the Shulchan Aruch filled with notes and glosses handwritten in the text, some long and very learned, testifying to the Torah knowledge of their author. At the end of the first volume is a real Torah treasure—an inscription in cramped handwriting with chiddushim and learned notes organized according to the simanim of the Shulchan Aruch, filling the whole page and continuing onto the back. In the second volume is a note “see at the end of the book”, and indeed at the end of the volume the author writes an important note about halacha related to the point.
On the first page appears the listing: “The Yoreh De’ah belongs to Mr. Gissi, the Rabbi and Chassid, Rabbi Yaakov Kovia Hauptmann[?]”. On the back of the title page is a signature of ownership of “Haim Shtaltzberg.” And more notes of ownership and signatures. On the page after the cover page of Volume 2 is a handwritten quote from Chazal which shows the depth of knowledge of the owners, with a stamp of “Hauptmann Josef … Volove” and the stamp of the Chassidic kabbalist Rabbi Mordechai Moshe HaKohen Karpman of Jerusalem.
Printed with Sidrei Tahara.
Preserved in good condition, the page before the cover page is disconnected, a few stains and light tears, generally good condition.
