Letter from members of the family of Rabbi Shalom of Shatz, his son Rabbi Yisrael Yaakov Moscowitz of Shatz, son-in-law of Rabbi Issachar Beer HaLevi Rotenburg, Av Beit Din of Wodislav. With handwritten blessings and signature from the Admor Rabbi Shalom.

Sent to family members in New York with blessings from the rabbi “doresh shalom to all of you, and may we hear good things and yeshuot and refuot for all of Israel”, with his famous signature, “Chaim v’Shalom”.

The Admor Rabbi Shalom Moscowitz of Shatz (1878-1958) was descended from the Maggid of Zlotchow. He was a gadol in nigla, nistar, and halcha. In his youth he was certified by the Maharsham of Berezhan who lauded him. He also wrote halachic works. In 1930 he immigrated to London and became famous as the Admor of Shatz. In his will he guaranteed that he mercy would fall upon all who visited his grave and accepted upon himself to become stronger in mitzvot and lighting candles. He also requested a very modest gravestone without titles or the word “tzaddik”.

Rabbi Yisrael Yaakov Moscowitz (1912-1954) was the son of the Admor Rabbi Shalom Moscowitz of Shatz, a student of Rabbi Meir Shapira in Lublin, known as a talmid chacham. His divrei torah were published by his father in the work Sheerit Yaakov.

The Admor Rabbi Issachar Beer HaLevi Rotenburg, head of the Rabbinical Assembly in the US, was grandson of the Or LaShamayim and student of the Chochmei Lublin yeshiva. He served as Av Beit Din in Wodislav. After the Shoah he immigrated to the US and built his beit midrash in New York and served there as Admor. He was close to the Admor Vayoel Moshe of Satmar.
