Sefer Torat Chaim on sugiyot of Shas, a very important work quoted widely in works of the poskim, by the gaon Rabbi Avraham Chaim Shor, Av Beit Din of Belz (son of Rabbi Naftali Zvi Hirsch), who lived around 400 years ago. He was a student of the Rama and rabbi of the Bach (who also inherited from him the rabbinate of Belz). His brother was the gaon Tevuo’ot Shor.
Printed in Sadilkov 1834. [2], 148 leaves. Approbations from the Frankfurt-der-Oder printing by the gedolim of the generation in Ashkenaz. Additional approbation for this printing from Rabbi Ephraim, Motz in Sadilkov. Title page in red ink, stains, copy worn from much use, lone bits of tape on the back of the title page and the end of the work, overall good condition.
This copy was owned by the gaon Rabbi Meir Shapira of Lublin; like the rest of his books, they were deposited in his Chochmei Lublin yeshiva, and it is clear that the yeshiva students made great use of this text. The title page has his stamp (only part of which is clear) from when he served as Av Beit Din of Pietrekov. There are a number of stamps of the Chochmei Lublin yeshiva. Additional notes, naughty doodles from lively boys who were apparently among the yeshiva students: “Alexander Zusha of Kotna [or Kotner]”. One long note testifies that the book belonged to the above gaon with many titles and praise, and lists his important positions (shows his students’ reverence for him). Another note is from someone who calls himself “the Head of the Library” and stamps his name in an unreadable manner.
Additional stamps:
“Moshe Temkin ben HaGaon Avdak here … in Pietrekov”, “who succeeded Rabbi Meir Shapira in the rabbinate of Pietrekov.”
