Lot 106:
Letter handwritten and signed by Mari Yichye Yitzchak Halevi, Av Beit Din of Sana and Rosh Av Beit Din of all Yementine communities, which actually made him the last Reish Galuta of Yemen
The letter is in fine, uniform Yemenite script, Chatzi Kolmus. It was written on the 14th of Shevat 1925 and addressed to HaRav Meshumar ben HaRav Shemen [Shmuel Nissim] . The letter deals with certificates for the Rav’s family.
In his letter, Rabbeinu writes that he received a certificate for his son’s wife and sons yet not for Sada bat David: "כי ביום ששי העבר ראיתי במכתב ידידי הרון בכ"ר סלימאן חבשום ני"ו כי הגיע הרשיון לעי"ת עדן על שם אשת בני זהרה בת אברהם הכהן ובניה ולא ידעתם את שמותיהם והנה כבר הודעתי למ"ע כת"ר במכתב את שמותיהם…אך גדל צערי כי לא נזכרה סעדה בת דוד… ברשיון והנה דבר בה נסיעתה עם בְּנֵי בני היקר שלום".
Rabbeinu adds that she must immigrate with his grandsons since their mother cannot manage them alone and she is like a mother to his son: "הכרח גדול כי היא המנהלת אותם והיא לבני כאם מימים, כי אמם זהרה הנזכרת לא תוכל לנהלם לבדה על כן אחלה פני כבודו בבקשה כפולה לעשות עמי חסד גדול מאד מאד… ואם כי הרביתי דברים ההכרח לא יגונה…. ואחתום בשים שלום המכבדו כערכו הרם ודוב"ש ואוהבו הצ’ יחיא ן’ משה יצחק לוי יצ"ו ס"ט".
