A strong letter of warning from rabbis of the Beit Din in Manchester to dayanim of the Chief Rabbinate in Jerusalem regarding fake converts seeking recognition at the Beit Din in Jerusalem. Manchester 1969.

“Forgive us for this uncomfortable letter”, they write, alerting the dayanim of the Beit din in Jerusalem that there are non-Jews unwilling to accept the mitzvot who were banned from converting by the Manchester Beit Din who were travelling to Israel and in exchange for money were succeeding in receiving a certificate of conversion from the beit din, “and many are complaining justifiably about the ability to convert easily, simply on the basis of paying a large sum to Dr. Ben Zeev, who is their great pimp in setting up this obstacle.”

The letter is accompanied by an additional letter warning the rabbis that Dr. Zeev is signed together with other rabbis on a teudat kashrut, even though he does not believe in Torat Moshe. As evidence they include an excerpt from Dr. Ben Zeev’s book proving that he was a heretic.

Signed by the Ga’avad Rabbi Yitzhak Yaakov Weiss, the Minchat Yitzhak, later the Ga’avad of the Eida Charedit; Rabbi Yitzhak Dudisch, and Rabbi Baruch HaLevi Horwitz, a dayan in Manchester and the Rosh Yeshiva Davar Yerushalayim.
