Letter from the early days of Agudas Yisrael, addressed to members of the Agudah in Jerusalem. Written around 6 months after the founding, when the idea was not understood by all, and its opponents acted even before the idea took root, especially in Jerusalem where the war was inside and out, and so Moreinu Rabbi Yaakov Rosenheim writes "We knew the situation in the Holy City, that now is not the time for public work…”. The rabbis end their letter with an optimistic tone, "Holy work is progressing, the great idea is gaining a large place in all countries. May God be with us in the days to come." Indeed, because of World War I the idea was frozen until the end of the war in 1919.

Official letterhead of the “Agudas Yisrael Temporary Committee”, 22x28cm, light creases, good condition.

Rabbi Yaakov Rosenheim (1875-1966) was a founder of Agudas Yisrael and led it at the beginning, when it was fighting the various Zionist movements, during World Wars I and II, and when the state of Israel was established. He knew how to go against everyone’s spirit and under his scepter the miracle arose in the form of Agudat Yisrael, uniting under it various ultra-Orthodox currents and from different countries, to this day.
